archie had his second injections last thurs and the vet says to keep him in until this thursday (22.05). i would really love to take him for his first walk tonight tho. should i be paitient and wait 2 days or will it be ok to take him out?
he goes to puppy class (all other dogs are fully vacc'd) and goes out in the communal area of our appartments.
would love to hear your opinions on this...

My puppy is going for his second jab next Monday and the vet said to me that it would be ok for him to go out two days after that, that is a big difference to your week so I would be interested to see what people advise.

It seems to depend on your area, and how high the underlying level of disease is. In this area, the vet practices all advise that pups wait for a fortnight after the second injection...:(

My dog had his second injection on Saturday and I have been told to keep him in for 10 day's. I have taken him a little walk though as he is getting quite tetchy. He loved it and wanted to go again. I do have rottweiler cross with a collie and I know collie's love a lot of exercise, and they can get quite snappy when board. I would take him for a little walk, I couldn't wait lol.

Personally I'd wait, I know it's agonising but you have to put the health of your pup first. I was very nearly tempted when our pup had her 2nd injection but then I thought I'd never forgive myself if she picked anything up because I was too impatient.
It's a killer but I'd wait... you'll certainly be able to make up for it once Thursday comes around ;-)

Gosh you people dont know how lucky you are. My vet made me wait till a week after my pups 3rd injection. Altho he did suggest that it was ok to walk the pup on the beach below the high tide line on the beach. Thank goodness he is a toy dog because I would carry him from the car to the right spot and then let him play. He surely was a sight trying to catch the tide coming in. LOL

3rd injection? Mine have only ever had 2.

I was counting the one that the breeder had done before we recieved our pup. Only two with us, but 3 all up :)

well in the end i had to be paitient as it was raining and the little darling refused to set foot outside!
i think i am going to take him out for a short walk round the block this evening - archie can be quite timid (mini dachs, only about 6 inches off the ground - everything looks pretty scary from down there!) and i want to get him out and about asap.
it's difficult isn't it when you hear different things from different people - our trainer said to take him out almost immediately - he really believes in socialisation over the risk of disease but i thought it's safetest to go with what the vet says!
at least i've only got a tiny sausage doggy who gets loads of excercise running round the house, your rottwheiler must be itching to get out!

Sydney had to wait a week after his second jab at 10 weeks. It was frustrating having to wait another week as it was glorious weather and we were stuck inside for 3 weeks. Must admit he went to puppy classes 1 day short of a week, but I carried him there didnt let him sniff around where other dogs could be. We took him to the inlaws for trips out as they have no dog so at least we weren’t completely housebound. Lucky for you it is raining, pup probably wouldnt like going out in it anyway.
Best of luck with the little one, dont worry before you know it you will be wishing you didnt have to go out walking with him specially when its raining.

You should have been taking him out for socialisation by carrying him with you sown the road etc. I would continue with this until he is used to the traffic, and do the lead practice at home at first and then only in quiet places outside. With such little legs even round the block will be quite a marathon.
You probably know this, but when thye vets tell you not to take dog out, this only means walking where other dogs who may be carrying disease have access, carrying him down to the shops etc is excellent right from tiny.

Hi
I'm glad you said that (carrying down to shops from tiny) cos I have had my cocker spaniel 4 days, she's 8 weeks old and I take her in an open basket (she sits and looks out of the top)into the city everyday and everyone thinks I'm weird and someone said it is cruel! We've walked past alot of noises, building work machines, screaming kids, crowds of people etc and it hasn't bothered her, we also get to meet children as I don't know many so she can get used to them patting her, so next I'm taking her to look at some big animals like horses in the country side. I might look weird now but who cares if it's gonna prepare her for the big wide world! I cant wait till she can walk though!
