Hello I am not a breeder and i would rather not be one by accident! I have 2 jack russells a female 5.5 mths and a male 8mths. I have been told that they are both too young to be spayed/neutered and that the female will come into season between 5mths and 1 yr. how can i keep them apart and when can I have them 'done' everybody I ask gives me a different answer. any help would be much appreciated.thanx.

Your boy could be done now but this board usually recommends waiting until a dog is fully mature - the same for a girl too. You are going to have to decide to either keep your eyes peeled for any sign that your girl is coming into season - it could happen anytime from now or take the risk and get your boy done now.

We normally recommend getting girls done about three months after their first season as that is the safest time for their body - no excessive blood in the area etc.

If your boy is a good lad and sensible etc then you could look to get him done now with little effect. If he is very immature then getting him done now could leave him that way.
