Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / LABRADOR HIP SCORES - CONFUSED
- By guest [gb] Date 20.05.03 12:06 UTC
Can anyone tell me how hip scores are worked out? We are looking to get another Labrador and I am totally confused as to what is a good/bad/indifferent hip score. For instance I would presume that 10/10 would be the best score you could get, but I notice some dogs are 3/3 or 5/7 and other numbers beside. Many thanks if anyone can enlighten me.

Hi Lisa.
The best score is 0:0
the worst is 53:53

Ideally it is generally accepted that a combined score of BELOW 20 is ok to breed from, but the lower the better. The variation in digits is the grading for each part of the hip, the often do vary from one hip to the other.

As well as hips don't forget you want to see CURRENT CLEAR eye certificates too and OCD scoring if possible.

Thanks Dawn - now I understand! What's OCD scoring though? Sorry if I'm being incredibly ignorant!

Have a look Here Under Health Screening Schemes. It has a good explaination.
