Well we had a our scan on friday (Day 29) and the vet said that she couldnt see anything, one big bladder but no pups.
Very disappointed, but these things happen.
She said there may be one or two hiding somewhere, is this likely has anyone else every experienced wrong scan results other than them getting the numbers a bit out?

My friend has, the vet that scanned told her no pups,
even though the veterinary nurse thought she saw some evidence of pregnancy.
My friend knows her dogs and was postive that the bitch was pregnant.
9 weeks later the bitch produced 8 pups!!
So vets can get it wrong some times.

Hi Johnny
My Staff was scanned at 28 days and I was told there was nothing there. She was x-rayed at about 42 days and still told there was nothing. Then at 50 odd days (obviously looking very pregnant) I was told, after a good feel about that she was definitely pregnant but there was probably only one. She had to go back to get an x-ray on day 62 and the vet could see 4. On day 65 she had 6 pups. So yes vets can definitely get it wrong.
Michelle.

i know someone who had a bitch scanned at a similar time into the pregnancy and was told no pups, the bitch gave birth to 5!!

We have come across a number of people who have had negative results from scans carried out by vets. Our local vet won't even tell you how many pups there are ... if they see any. We use an animal scanning specialist who prefers to scan at about 5 weeks... at that stage our "pups" were more like "pips" they were about the size of a large grape. SO it is worth having a second opinion. PS the lady we use lives in Bedfordshire.

I know we shouldnt really moan because when we need them they are largely there, but increasingly I am becoming very dis-illusioned with vets in general.
They seem to want to get you in and out of the door as quickly as possible and their level of knowledge with regards to the breeding of dogs seems to be rudimentary. I was told that the scanning process would take on average about 15 minutes. I was in there less than 5, including the time it took to shave my girls belly.
The other vet that I use dishes out anti-biotics at the drop of a hat as a cure all(WE all know what implications this had in the human world)
The first vet that I used(Do not use her anymore) told me that my dog was pregnant due to an mismating when she was 1 before she had even tested her, turned out to be a phantom but still think she deliberately put the willies up me to make me cough up more dosh. Then she told me (Exact words) I think your dog has cancer,
How can you tell?
It feels like cancer.
£380 later and one hell of a scar that doesnt look too pretty oh no it's a cystic heamatoma.
I dispair sometimes!!!!

Alright now things are getting confusing.
Still off her food, starting to appear to fill out a bit, losing her waistline, but no hanging tummy, nipples still getting larger and darker. Could be a phantom I suppose but she has never acted like this before after previous seasons and she has had phantoms before.
Almost convinced that the scan was wrong, or do I just have the strangest bitch in the world.
Appetite seems to be improving now, (33 days in) still fussy but will eat in the morning.
I DUNNO!!!!
