Hiya I want to get my Westie Pup Molly groomed as she is looking a tad long and a little scruffy to say the least. She is 5.5 months old, and MEGA hyper.
If I take her she is going to go mental, but I cant do it myself - please help !!

Most dogs (although not all) will calm down once they are left in strange premises without their owner. Most ofthe dogs I've groomed that I have been warned about never amounted to muc. The worst ones were the ones where they say oh he just grumbles he wont bite, wrong they do!
So find yourself a good groomer who understands puppies and take her along.

Thanks Bec, the groomer said that he is expecting a little terror as most westies are. One thing I did notice was that he has a selection of 'friendly' muzzles on the shelf - if he puts one of those on her she will go scatty !!

its a shame you are so far away,we are in west yorkshire and my friend grooms, she has muzzles at the owners request, but never uses them unless asked to.she says she would prefer to risk a few nips than do that,as it just puts the dog off for next time.my dog cant wait to go to the groomers, she also has had westies for the past x amount of years.can you take the dog to the groomers just to play first so it will know that it can be fun and games as well as little discomfort?

Hiya Where in West Yorkshire ? I would be prepared to take Molly where I know she would be looked after properly

she is in Ossett, near Wakefield.she has been grooming her own dogs from a very early age, about 13 or 14 years old so has been at it for 12 years now.
if you want the full address email me privately and i'll give you full details,as i dont think i can put her details on the board

Hiya Mel

I thought Michelle was Lovely she really put my mind at ease about taking Molly, as I explained I am such a softie with her, and she is SO spoilt that I was really worried about leaving her, but Michelle certainly knows what she is doing ! We took her to the beach yesterday so she needs a good cleaning tonight before Michelle gets her !!!
Look forward to seeing you there !

With most dogs, if you stand them on a table will be a lot steadier to handle. They don’t feel quite so confident when up in the air. Get a pair of scissors with rounded ends, a lot less chance of stabbing her! and keep doing "Dry runs", combing and clipping fresh air so she gets use to the idea and sounds. Gradually, after a few days of dummy runs take just a few light "Trimming" cuts, you don’t need to do the whole dog in one go. After a while she will start to relax a little and your life will be easy.

I have never owned a "Clipped" breed but some years ago, when my aunt got a Westie, I ended up with the job, and if I can do it so can anyone!

Regards, John
