As a complete novice to showing, please can you tell me what I need to buy for showing my Staffordshire Bull Terrier, I can think of some things, but I'm sure I would forget something! most likely the dog :-)
Thanks

Debbie
a crate and a decent lead and collar is all you need! :)
With other breeds you may need a grooming table etc .
O and nerves of steel :D

Debbie,
In my bag for the Danes I have a gardening glove from the pound shop that has little rubber bumps on, which is great for giving a quick groom down! I also have a groom spray, and plenty of titbits :D Oh and a pen to note the class results with, and mints for me to stop the nerves!

Grace
you are terribly organised !!
Yes Debbie you should indeed have the things Grace mentions _ sorry was just thinking of what the dog needs -
a chamois cloth or glove is also useful ( and a bag of treats - VERY BIG bag for a staffy like Gus)

Well Lel I did think about it but I'd have to cut it in half somehow- the *draining board* wouldn't fit:D :D :D :D :D

In a breed book I have first published 1962, recommended show kit was:
Entry pass card; bench rug; benching chain; coat (winter time); Show lead; brushes; towel; ring clips; emergency 'dry cleaner' and cotton wool; ring bait; pen to mark your catalogue; your dog's food, water and bowl; your own food; and needle, cotton and scissors to repair your own clothes in an emergency.
And the correct dog!!!!!

Being fairly new to this it is a worry for me too! What i do now is have a large toolbox which I keep everything i possibly need for a show and it is fairly easy to lug about so nothing important gets forgot. Except the dog!!

I remembered everything today - well, so I thought but when I got to the show I realised I had forgotten the pin for the show entry number - doh!!!!!!!
so there's something else for the list :)

Mine's pinned to my dog coat perm:) I did forget it last month though and ended up with a denim jacket on- I had to make a small slit in the number and put it over the pocket of my jacket and fasten the pocket down:o  it was rather embarrasing to say the least;)

Mind you , fiddling about trying to attach it stopped my nerves getting the better of me ( well for 8 and a half seconds anyway )

Hi
I am a complete novice to dog showing too, but spent many years showing horses so some things were automatically on my list.
Dogs,
Showing leads
Normal leads and coupling
Crate
Bowl & bottle of water
Catalogue, Car Pass & Numbers (if these were sent to me)
Copy of schedule and photocopy of completed entry form
Sandwich bags (for picking up accidents)
Kitchen roll (for cleaning bottoms if nervousness has made the 'accidents' a little sloppy)
rescue remedy - for me and dogs (one of my mum's dogs was eplieptic and the habit of always carrying RR for post-ictal treatment hasn't dimmed)
Mobile phone
money
dog towels - for wet weather
sense of humour
Hope this helps some

Everything but the kitchen sink :D
Well that's what I've been told my bag is like! (I do have 2 Boxers that I show)
I have leads (plus spares inc choke chains as I did have one break on me a few years back)
Benching chain/s & benching blanket
towels
Bar mat (to take in the ring to wipe the dogs face if needed - tucked into bumbag when in ring)
Baby wipes
dry foam shampoo/no-rinse shampoo
grooming mitt & sheepskin buffing mitt
Poo-Bags (Nappy sacks bought from Pound shop - have some in bum bag/car etc)
Scissors (Curved and straight for face and trimming hair on legs)
Rescue Remedy (for both myself and my dogs)
Vaseline (for my dogs noses - cleans that I've just eaten my dinner look)
Doggy first aid kit
Ring clip/armbands and spares
Plasters/Piriton/Headache tablets/Womens stuff ;) / Tissues/ asthma inhaler
Pens/Paper
Wet weather over trousers to protect my trousers/jeans to keep them clean b4 going in the ring.
Non-Slip mats for my dogs (stand their rear legs on to prevent them from doing the splits or sliding all over the place)
Bum Bag - making sure it's emptied on return from shows :D There sure do 'hum' if you
leave bait in there until the next show
Bait - ranges from cheese/liver/sausage/biscuits - basically what your dog's tummy can cope with &
what your dog absolutely loves - bribery is sometimes necessary :D
Favourite squeaky toy (dogs)
Then I always make sure that I take the schedule (along with proof of postage certificate, just incase they don't receive your entry)
Passes for Champ shows
Purse/Mobile phone/BreakDown recovery card (hopefully you won't need this!)
Water for dogs - Spray bottle/Bowl
My car always has more water/space blankets to keep car cool in summer/bowls/
bungees for space blankets & trolley.
Folding cage - incase no benching or at open shows if parking is far away.
Folding seat
Fishing trolley used to transport folding cage/folding seat/dog bag etc and shopping :D to and from
the car park.
Maps
Don't forget your own packed lunch & drinks (as catering is often expensive at the shows)
Then most importantly don't forget yourself and the dog! :)
I think I need to go through my bag again to make sure I haven't forgotten anything :D
I'm sure I have!
