my staffie wasn't registered with the KC when she was born even though both of her parents are.this was confirmed by the KC with a phone call.the only way she can be registered is by the breeder.why did the breeder not register the litter, and how can i approach the breeder to ask if they would register her and i will be paying for the late registration etc.any info would be very grateful.

Hi,
There are several possible reasons why the breeder didn't register the litter. Firstly, perhaps they just didn't want to (unlikely, though!) It could be the bitch was too young or too old, or this litter was born withing 12 months of her previous one, or there could be endoresments on the dam's registration preventing her progeny being registered.

Your best bet is to contact the breeder and ask if they would apply for late registration.
:)

There must be a reason for the breeder not to have registered this litter, was the litter advertised as k.c. reg? if so the breeder should have registered them, and given you a letter stating k.c. registration applied for, I would NEVER expect a buyer to give me money towards registering a puppy, its not your place to do, or. offer this, its the breeders. If the litter is over 1 year old it will cost the breeder either £50 or £60 to do this and that is for each puppy registered. I agree with the other posting that the bitch could either have been too young, or had a litter 6 months previously. Good luck anyway.

is it still against kc regulations for a bitch to have two litters in the same year?

Just been checking on their website, and I can't find any reference to that, so maybe they have rescinded it. Shame. :(

Hi,

Depends on the breeder - won't swear that I have the exact detail right, but general concept since the rule change is that those who register less than 5 litters a year are not subject to any ruling on year between litters etc. Those who register 5 or more litters cannot register two litters to same bitch within 1 year, no grace of a few days if seasons are early, no application from vet if special circumstances allowed. Limits on top/bottom age limits and no more than 6(?) litters per bitch apply to all, I believe.

Think that's right, sure someone will soon tell me if I'm wrong.

M.

They gave up on this rule after complaints from breeders whose dogs don't have 6 monthly seasons.
