Anyone have any advise about socialising our new puppy (12 weeks) to accept men. Am doing extensive socialisation - crowds, public transport, puppy socialisation & training, ringcraft, shops, etc etc.. but wondered if anyone has any ideas for this sepcific problem area. Puppy was very well brought up but without any male contact and has displayed fear agression towards men who approach him. Thanks.

Do you have any men in the family ( father , brother , friends , neighbours etc)who could actually approach pup in a non threatening way and stroke him , make a fuss of him , give him a treat, play with him etc etc until he becomes used to them

Only partner, but I shall ring all my male friends and bribe them (with promises of beer) to come over to see us more often over the next few months. I think the key to your post is the phrase 'non'threatening way' I've noticed now that a lot of people tend to approach the puppy with full on eye contact and put their faces too close. Thanks for highlighting it.

Thats the key to good socialising - mixing wth all types of people ( and dogs of course ) . Male / female/children/people with beards / people wearing glasses, hats etc . So they become accustomed to all . Thats why sometimes dogs dislike people for the silliest of reasons simply because they are unaccustomed to them .
Not only regarding eye contact , sometimes men ( or even older boys ) can sometimes play too rough with pups which can make them a little unsure .
Good luck
Lesley
