apparently there are 10 lead faults that you can do when training a dog, i know a few of them which are nagging at the dog, tugging the lead a lot, does anybody know what the others are as i have lent my training books to someone and i have a dog handlers job interveiw to go to tomorrow, i am trying to cover things that i may get asked about so if you can think of anything else i may get asked let me know about it, thanks in advance

Don't know the answer to your question offhand but I doubt that you would have to know something so specific. Did you have to swat up on certain subjects? What sort of dog handlers job are you going for?

I am going for a security dog handlers job, and i know the lead fault question was asked last time, and as my boss at the moment is going to be one of them on the panel i know he is going to try and catch me out, so i am trying to cover most things but i cant be expected to know everything it is just impossible.

Might be an advantage that the boss knows who he would be getting (better the devil you know!) :). I can see why you want to find out if that question has been asked before! Can you not contact the person you lent the books to and ask them to look it up? Unless you're like me and forget who borrowed it
Might ask lots of liability questions - todays an era where you have to think twice before you deploy your dogs into the role you have been training for :(
Good luck for tomorrow

Off the top of my head (dinner's in the oven and the books are on the shelves) I would suggest: looking towards the dog rather than at the point of focus ... incorrect length leash ... having the lead wrapped round one hand ... not holding the lead correctly between two hands ... dog not at heel from handler at correct distance ...

Just guesses but I'm sure others will be along soon!

Good luck for interview.

Hi,

The only lead faults I know are the obedience ones, which are:-

1. Too tight a lead
2. Jerking the lead
3. Too long a lead
4. Lead catching on your leg
5. Dog grabbing the lead
6. Using the lead as a signal
7. Using the lead as a toy
8. Wrapping the lead round your hand (tightly)

Thats all I can think of at the moment, might remember some more later on. :D
