Hi Guys

Do any of you have a good recommendation for a Shampoo for Black Coats. Douglas absolutely loves going in the sea but his black feathering is taking on a hint of brown :-( Any tips would be gratefully received.

I use Black Knight by WAHL which I bought for £4. (for a 16lf oz bottle) from WELKS last year. It's an organic shampoo that you dilute 15:1.

Hollys coat isn't very good but she looks better with this shampoo and Lara looks wonderful with it. The black is really deep and rich and the white is pure white. My parents use it on their black cocker as well and she's in brilliant condition - really rich coat with no hint of brown/copper to it.

The shampoo is a really gloopy consistancy and it rinses out well - it doesn't foam very much but that could be because we have very hard water here.

What happens if you have a black dog with white bits, does the black shampoo effect the white?

My bearded collie Lara is black and white and the shampoo is wonderful on her coat. The colours are really, really clear and the definition is wonderful.

We haev Solo at Southern Counties and we need all the help we can get... Have found a website, but it costs more for then to despatch it than it does for the actual bottle - so shall pick it up at the show - doesn' thelp much before hand though :p

Does it saying anything on the bottle about dyes or anything like that as with Douglas being a Show dog I would'nt be able to use anything that had dye in it :(

Another good one is Dzyanadog black magic formula, it is about £5 for the smallest bottle but brings the coat up lovely everybody coments on Callums coat how shiny it is.

Does anyone know if you can buy it on the net? If so what's there web site?

Another good one that is good and a bit more easily obtained, at pet shops, is 7 Seas/Vetzyme for black coats. Hope this helps

I have found the WAHL on - http://www.denbar-uk-ltd.co.uk/denbar.htm. Which is the Snooze n Snacks website, £4.95 for the small bottle. I will give it a try as my dogs black coat is going a bit brown. I have often looked at the black shampoo but was worried what it would do to the white collar and legs.

Thanks for this Anndee but again is there anything on the bottle that says it could be classed as a dye as this cannot be used on a Show Dog :( Or rather it shouldn't be used on a Show Dog.

I use Doreen paige Black Star Naturally on my schipperkes and find it very good especially as we don't want their coats softening before a show.

We have been using the Wahl shampoos for a couple of years now - the black one is great, but the purple one (which is especially for parti colours/whites) is amazing, and can be used on any coat colour if you want - lathers well, rinses easily and smell fantastic! When you buy it in the gallon size its dilution rate is even greater (32 to 1). I get it from my local clipper service/blade place, and it is just under £16 per gallon. cheaper than I have found it on any of the show trade stands.

Hi,i know i'm a bit late with this but prevention is better than cure !!!,protect your dogs coat and stop the browning effect between shampoo's by using mink oil........most lge pet stores and groomers supplies have it and it gives you the dilutions so you dont end up with a greasy dog........i use the Doreen Paige one on my american cockers and wouldn't be without it........hope it helps.regards Pauline
