I need to say I'm no feminist, but I do believe in the 21st century women should be treated equal to men so why.....
When I take MY car, registered in MY name for an MOT is the reminder sent 12 months later to MR.......
I take out breakdown cover with a national company...and 2 weeks later they invite MR..... to apply for a loan etc.
The mortgage which is in joint names, all correspondence regarding to payments and outstanding balance is addressed to both of us...but the shares we were entitled to were only in the name of MR.......
Do these companies think women are incapable of owning a car/making financial descisions or holding shares!!!!!!!
sorry but had to let off steam :(

I totally agree with you its the same with us and also you can have a credit card, insurance etc.. and let the woman try ringing and they have to speak to the man it really annoys me I dont have insurance in joint names now I have it in mine. The main reason is I think is because its MR & Mrs therefore the Mr being first named person.
Have you noticed as well if there is a workman repairing anything and your partner/Hubby is there they will explain all technicalities to the man not the little woman grrrrrrrr :(
Yet let a form need filling in or appointments made My husband rang me to ask me to ring the doctors for an appointment my son rang me to ask me to ring directory enquiries then ring him back with the number mind boggling isnt it?

The appointments bit must be a man thing, mine does it too!!
However, if we get are doing something, such as buying a car, and the salesman, as you say talks automatically to him, he's got quite good at ignoring them or walking away. In a local Peugeot garage he even told the saleman "my wife asked you the question not me, she's in charge of the deal, talk to her".
The salesman was taken aback to say the least.
Simon finds it just as irritating as I do that its taken for granted the man will be in control.
It's almost as bad as men talking to your boobs if you're out!!!

My elderly aunt (a widow) moved into a new house and wanted double glazing. You would be amazed how many companies refuse to come to quote unless "the Husband" is there. My aunt isn't too keen on announcing to the world that she is an elderly woman living on her own, so this caused all sorts of problems for her.
Also, BT and gas bills are in Jeff's name. Do you think I can get information out of them? I'm fed up with being asked if "the account holder" is home. I did find a way around it though. Once I point out that I will no longer pay the bill from our Joint account unless they speak to me, they seem to back down.

They want "the husband" there so the salesman can sit in the living room and try to force a sale. If the husband isn't there the lady can use it as an excuse not to buy, as in "I'll have to ask my husband".
You're right, they BT & so usually back off if you mention "joint account" or "I pay the bill"
To Emma, my local, and exceptionally good garage, took on a chap and it's taken me 3 years to beat him in to shape and stop him being a rude sexist pig. I think people have difficulty in accepting that we can do "mens work". I get the same, and am often treated as the receptionist. Callers assume that it will have to be a man giving them technical or other information about batteries.

We were in a large furniture shop, looking for a dining table. The salesman looked at me once, then completely blanked me. He spoke to my husband. If I asked a question, it was ignored. If husband then asked the same question, he was answered. This went on for 15 minutes until I lost it and shouted "Hello!!! Can anyone hear me?"
No sale was made.

steady,
i work in the motor trade and have done for 9 years. the female customers are the worse. i can tell them something about there cars but they do not believe me until a man has told them in my exact words, what the fault is. why because i am female. Or when they walk in its what an earth are u doing here.
