We have just started walking our Rhodesian Ridgeback, he is 15 weeks old. We were told that too much exercise is bad for them at this age, but how much is that? We have lovely walks near to us, but we are now worried just how far we should take him. any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Remus.

Hi Remus
We also have a RR (6 months old) and as he was abit excitable the vet recommended 30mins walk in the morning and 30mins walk in the evening and even a little walk midday. We thought that was abit much so he has a walk in the morning and a stroll in the evening and of course the usual playing during the day.
For 15 weeks old I would stick to just socializing getting him out and about seeing and experiencing as much as possible.
Would love to talk more about the breed in general, feel free to email me

Hi both
I've had RR's and would say that Rachel has it about right. Too much excercise too young can affect the joints.
Socialisation is the most important thing with RR's, with children as well as other dogs

See also the other thread on 'Exercise' referring to a RR, further down the board.
