my dobie pup (7 months old) is suffering from a slight hair loss over her shoulders and in one or two other areas. I'm not sure what is causing it, she isnt scratching so it obviously isnt bothering her. Im gonna take her to the vet but would appreciate views from anybody else who has experienced this.

p.s her diet consists of bakers puppy complete.

thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
This can be a problem in dobes, though hopefully your vet will be able to diagnose and cure. I too have had a dobe with hair loss, though not in the same area as yours, so perhaps this is something different. I can't remember the name for this hair loss, though I am sure Christine will be along soon, she surely will know. What colour dobe do you have?

The name for hair loss is 'alopecia', if that's any help?

Hi Mark

There are so many causes of hair loss from simply moulting, allergies (to flea bites, chemicals), mange to thyroid deficiency problems that it is impossible to say.

The blues and fawns are prone to alopecia although I think 7 months is a bit early to start this.

Please let us know what your vet says, what colour you Dobe is, where the other areas of hairloss are, and how you get on with this problem as we are all learning from each other here :)

Good luck

Christine
