My 8 month old westie has 2 swollen and itchy front paws. She is receiving veterinary treatment but I wondered if anyone on here had any experience of this condition to share with me.
The vet treatment so far has been 2 times 5 day courses of antibiotics which didn't help. Now she is on day 4 of non steriodal anti inflammatories. So far no improvement.
I did a search on Google on "Atopic Dermatitis in dogs" and that certainly brought up lots of relevant stuff but I wondered if anyone had any real life experience of this condition in their dogs.
I am particularly interested in whether or not a 'cure' can be found and what standard of life the dog can be expected to have.

I have a dog with this condition. My vet is a skin specialist and did some skin tests. On the basis of the result from the test he prescribed monthly injections which she has to have for life. This is a bit like humans having asthma - dogs can have allergies and the skin test can determine the cause.
My girl has had no problems at all since she's been having injections (2 years)
E mail me and let me know where you live - my vet gets referrals from a hundred mile radius.

Hi,I have a Dobermann aged three. She has had skin/coat problems for about 18 months now, She has had several tests including blood tests for thyroid but all to no avail. I was actually on the net one day and came across a food which is called 'James Wellbeloved' It is a dried food and you have to try this for a minimum of 6 weeks, Aysha is on her 2nd week & I think she is improving. Her coat is very thin in patched and she has smalll lumps associated with the proble. it might be worth a try but I'm all for trying. the food is available in most pet shops if not from your local vet.Let me know if you tey it or if you have found out something else about the problem
