We have just recently rescued what we believe to be a Black and Tan Jack Russell, he has a smooth coat and long legs. A few people have told us that there is no such thing as an ALL Black and Tan Jack Russell. Can anyone tell us if this is correct. Also our pup is so much fun to be around that we would like to get him a friend in a few months. Does anyone know breeders that have Black and Tan Jack Russells especially in the South West of England.
Thanks for your help

Does he look like one of these, or even one of these?
- By Charlie73 [gb] Date 11.05.03 16:20 UTC
No he doesn't look like them, same colouring but Jack Russell size and his ears are just like my sisters Parsons Jack Russell. How do you attach pictures and I can show you him??

There is also this.

This one here has short legs, though.

Other than that, all I can think of is that he is a cross.

No none of them either, the nearest we have found on the internet to him is at www.irishjacks.com but they are short legged and its an american website.

Its such a shame because everywhere we go with him people stop us and ask what he is.

its perfectly feasible that he is a small B&T working terrier...he will look like a working jack...I have seen several of the over the years at shows.

Just come back from a Terrier show today, there were many short haired Jack Russell types there. Jack Russell X Lakeland often produces a smooth coated black and tan Terrier, they can also be broken or rough coated.
Dawn.

E-mail me a pic if you can I will have a look for you.

Hello,
Yes IrishJacks do have black & tan jack russel terriers which they are asking astortinate sums for.
But they are not pure bred jack russels they are bred by a lady in Gallway Ireland & exported to America & the black & tans are cross Dachshund (thats why they alo get pure reds in litters).
I have asked all the working terrier people i know & they have said the only way to get a black & tan jackrussel is by crossing with a breed that carries black & tan genes.
Bye
Jenny.

Actually a Jack/Parson Russell is predominantly white so therefore if it's black and tan then it isn't a Jack Russell! Working Lakelands are similar to a black and tan Parson Russells so that may be an option.

We had a black and tan when i was a child - but she was a X Daschund; had JRT looks, but was quite long bodied. Fab little dog she was!

thanks to you all for responding, we have a few ideas now as to what he may be perhaps JRT cross Manchester terrier? not that it matters. I will try to send photos to those who requested and if you have any more ideas please send us an e-mail
