Moose was again at the vets yesterday for what must be her fifth infection (19 months old). She finished her third season 9 days ago but has passing clots of blood in her wee. The vets has said that she seems to be prone to these infections and has prescribed the same antibiotics each time.

We are depserate to get to the bottom of this as she has never been in a stable condition to be spayed as she has either had an infection or has had a phantom pregnancy and want her to be 100% before we go ahead.

Has anybody ever had a bitch go through this or any ideas what we can do ? I remember Terri (Briedog) mentioning getting swabs done. What can this prove ? Could this mean that she has an infection that has not really been iradicated by the type of antibiotics she has been given ? Somebody has suggested to me to let her have a litter??I am not sure whether this is sound advice ??!!

Any help would be appreciated !

Thanks

Lucy

Hi,

Poor girl, sounds like she has had a hard time!! Swabs will show if there is an infection and cultures can be grown from this to find out what antibiotics will kill the infection best.

Why has your vet given the same antibiotics everytime, when they obviously haven't worked???

They do work as it seems to get rid of the infection and she has infection free times but it re occurs. I suppose it is like if somebody is prone to cystitis as a human. Some people are more susceptable ? Maybe ?

Sorry Lucy, can't help, but I hope she gets better soon :) Perhaps something homeopathic to boost her immune system might help?

Chloe :)
