Hi, My bitch, who is 53 days pregnant had previously developed very swollen teats especially the 2 furthest back, which I have considered to be very normal as I have had 4 kids myself. Im not sure if I am being neurotic but today she has been very lethargic, again to be expected, but her teats have become very deflated and baggy, all the swelling has gone from within them leaving no substance to them (im having difficulty describing what they are like) but they dont look normal. Im not sure when the milk comes in, but yesterday they were very full, today they look like something has sucked the life out of them. This is my first litter, think I feel more worried about this than I did any of my own pregnancies. If anyone can grasp what I am trying to say, and can give me a bit of info on this it would be greatly appreciated.

When her teats were swollen could you express any milk from them ? And is there any milk there that you could express now ? Just wondering if you should be preparing to bottle feed - I hope not. Maybe someone with a lot more experience than me could be of more help. I do hope all goes well, it's such a worrying time.

I noticed that she was leaking milk when she was laying in a particular way a week or so ago, but I havent tried to express any before. I already have bottles and Lactol, but was hoping that I had wasted my money and wasnt going to need them!! She seems to be very distant and sad tonight and isnt really responding to me, which is worrying. Am going to bring the campbed down and spend the night with her. Just wondering, what is the earliest time that they can safely whelp? Presumably they havent got the variation that us humans have!
