Been to the vets this evening for some wormer and been charged £15.50 for five drontal tablets. Can't believe they can charge £3.00 per tablet. Anyway the point of this thread is to ask can Drontal be bought anywhere else other than the vet's??

I buy it from a farm supply shop. But I don't know if there is something similar in the UK. 2 Euro a tab.

Hi,

Try http://www.vet-medic.com. They are £1.75 each from there, with P&P free for wormers.

Hi Bob,

I will never use Drontal again after nearly losing my Labrador this week after worming her.
I wouldn't use them if they gave them to me now. (cost £100 so far to treat my poor Labrador).
I am now looking for alternatives.

Have posted elsewhere about the serious problems Poppy has had.

Best wishes,
Val

What happened? I have just taken our 8 week old lab to vet for first injection and got some Drontal which I have just given her!

Hello BigD.

Poppy was very ill with sickness and severe diarrheoa (very watery and with blood). I have never been so worried in my whole life. Poppy is a year old but this was the first time I'd used Drontal for her as only had her 3 months. Rather than repeat it all here try this link

(Hope I've done that right!) If not go to the thread 'Alternative to Drontal + for tapeworm.

Please dont panic though. I'm sure your puppy will be fine. Lots of people obviously use Drontal but it certainly causes a lot of problems to some dogs, including Poppy. Drontal apparently say 'some dogs' have allergic reactions to it (they're not kidding! Poppy isn't yet out of trouble but improving gradually. Still concerned about her).

Best wishes,
Val
