We could have the same debate about danes, is £800 too much to pay for a dane. There are not alot of bulldogs around therefore the people who want a bulldog are willing to pay for that privellage. It is not about owning a dog that others cannot afford to buy. That argument is pathetic. Us bully lovers are willing to pay the money and therefore I cannot see the problem, you get what you pay for and I have two of the most beautiful creatures on this earth for just over £2000, now is that really such a bad thing. The pleasure I get from them is unbelieveable, every day they give me something else to smile about and I would happily pay more than what I have paid for them. And i don-t see that as me being exploited. It really has been the best money ever spent and I will never stray away from the bulldog breed

It wasn't an argument, and it wasn't "pathetic" either. YOU might not be able to see it, but you only have to look at how many people have staffie's because they want a "tough" looking dog... therefore, my point about a PERCENTAGE of owners possibly wanting an elitist dog is valid.

Oh, and my point was about bulldogs costing £1500... theres a world of difference between 2k for two dogs and 3k.

The eldest out of the two was cheaper as she had been spayed.
My messages are not directed at you Chloe so I cannot understand why you are taking the defensive.
I just feel that the breeders and the breed are given such a hard time and because I own a bulldog, I therefore feel compelled to write in order to stick up for the breed. The same as you most probably would should someone come onto a message board and say that danes shouldn-t be bred, that their breeders are unethical etc.

thats fair enough - but I'm not saying they shouldn't be bred, I love bulldogs! I just feel that £1500 to pay for any dog is too much, and I was intrigued as to why so much money was being charged.

I'm not being defensive, but your comments appeard to be pointed at, or quoting from me. I've tried to stay as general as possible throughout :)

Hi Chloe,
On the petplanet site they say that average price for a bulldog is £500-£800, which seems fair enough.
:)

dont presume to know what i think chloe. why has this discussion obviously anoyed you so much anyway?? i suggest u go back to the beggining and read every post. like many other people have said....money is not the issue(except in your case) when you are getting the breed of dog you have dreamed about. i'm really surprised at your animosity!.

the only time i get annoyed is when people can't discuss a topic properly, without resorting to patronising comments. frankly, i have seen no justification for charging that amount of money for a puppy, so, like I said, I will continue to believe it to be based on "how much can we get away with charging".
