hi,
i take it you mean stand for the show ring? i always start by not training the puppies to sit and get them to stand for their meals. does not have to be a perfect stand or even for very long just long enough for them to associate the sound with treats! you can work on getting them perfect later. training a pup this young just be very short and lots of fun for him.
his tail can either be down or carried in a sickle shaped curve over the back, it should not be tightly curled like an akita or snap flat on the back.
do you know of any ringcraft classes in the area as these can be very helpful if you are just starting to show.
have a look at
siberian husky club of GB
and this illustarted breed standard

i have just started showing my newest pup seriously so feel free to e mail me if you want any more help,
hope this helps!

Hi Scratchy :D Just for interest :D Elkhounds are required to have their tails tightly curled on their backs, an Akita is meant to have the tail curl onto the hip. Finish spitz should also have a single curl that curls on one hip but pointing toward the buttock. A tightly curled tail is not correct for either of these breeds, though I see many that do have such tails. :D

Just to put the record straight - this is the breed standard for an akita tail

Large and full, set high, carried over back, full or double curl, always dipping to or below level of back. On a three-quarter curl tail, tip dips down flank. Root large and strong. Hair coarse, straight and full with no appearance of a plume. Sickle or uncurled tail highly undesirable.
