Try using a softer slicker, like Lawrence and use a large size one, but do use it sympathetically. Also you need a wide/med. toothed metal comb and possible a pin brush without bobbles on. again get a large size. If there is a lot of dead undercoat, especailly round the haunches, an item called a 'Coat King' is an excellent purchase. It actually strips the dead coat out. You would probably have to mail order all these products from a good grooming suppliers (see dog papers) or go along to a Ch. show, were there are lots of trade stands. You would get them there easily enough.
When you bath I would recommend using a conditioner and whilst its in the coat try and comb the coat through before rinsing it out. Mind you don't block up the plug hole though, with all the dead hair coming out!!
Good Luck.

Zoom grooms are brilliant :D but my favourite is the shedding blade :)
