I visited my vets on Wednesday morning and was shocked to hear him announce that my dogs temperature was 101.8 both of the thermometers that I have give her temperature as usually about 38.1 to 38.4 centigrade (100.6F - 101.1F) which is what I measured when I got home.

The fact that I am using 2 thermometers and that I have got the same reading from both(1 a digital one a normal mercury both from a local chemists!) would suggest that either my girl was hot at the vets or there is something badly wrong with the thermometers that I have.

She is hopefully 3 weeks pregnant and I am a little worried about her not eating. Normal activity levels etc and not really drinking too much, certainly not polydipsia yet!(100ml per 1Kg of dog per day)

Any help with any of the above would be gratefully recieved

Your vet was just using a farenheiht and your thermometer is reading centigrade......

38.1 Centigrade is approx 100.5 farenheiht, so your vet and your readings were the same.

(Edited to add that "normal" temp for a dog, according to my vet, is anywhere between 101 and 102.5......and it is usually a bit higher at the vets 'cos of the stress.)

Just to say last night I bought a new digital thermometer and tested it along side the other one, they both gave exactly the same readings. So all i can say is that either there are a lot of dodgy thermometers out there or my dog's temperature shot up by about a degree between home and the vets which I have read is not unusual!

Also looked around to see if there were any specific thermometers for dogs all the vets I spoke to used a human thermometer!

Well if your dog is anything like me my temperature rises and my blood pressure when I'm in the car!!
I had a doctors appointment at 6.00pm, got stuck in the rush hour traffic, eventually got to the doc's just as my appointment was getting called, went in had my blood pressure taken... told it was high ...come back in 2 weeks... arranged another appointment mid afternoon went back ... blood pressure normal.....
I think it's called job creation!!
