Hi all,
We have a 6 and a half month old Yorkie bitch, and I was wondering what are the signs of her coming into season, apart from the blood that is, is there anything I should be looking out for ?
Had male Yorkies in the past so not sure what to look out for.
How long will the season last for and will there be blood in her pee, or will she have a discharge at any time, and is it likely to be a lot of blood ?
Also, need information on her teeth, she has lost quite a few of her baby teeth, but the back ones are taking a while, and her jaw feels kind of lumpy at the back, is this normal ?
Thanks for any help.

Hi,

You will notice that her vulva starts to swell up a bit and she will start licking a lot to keep herself clean. You will then notice the little drips of blood around and this will last for between 2.5 to 4 weeks, depending on your own dog.

Make sure you keep her away from all the un-neutered boys, or you could end up with problems. You will be surprised how quick an experienced dog can be in mating a bitch and how willing the bitch will be if she is ready!!

You may see a little blood in her pee, simply because the blood will be there from the season, but as long as she is healthy and happy, nothing to worry about.

Teeth take a while to come through somtimes, the lumpy jaw is probably just the molars waiting to come through. You can help these through by encouraging her to chew on Rawhide chews (make sure they are too big for her to get bits off and swallow them), teething pups love these.

:)

Hi,
First signs are generally the vulva becoming more swollen (which may not be easy to see on a small, coated bitch!), and she may start weeing more often. She will probably also start cleaning herself more.

Her season will last round about 3 weeks, all of which time she'll have some degree of discharge. It'll start off just bloody, then after 10 days or so will become thinner and more straw-coloured. She won't have blood in her pee as such, but it may look slightly stained as the urethra also empties into the vulva. As to quantites of blood loss, it won't be a lot as she's so tiny, but it varies from bitch to bitch anyway, and some keep themselves cleaner than others.

I don't know about Yorkie's teething, but we always give our pups nice hard things to gnaw on the help shed the milk teeth.
Hope this helps
:)

Just to add not all bitches drip blood. Some are exceptionally clean and don't leave any mess. Some do:rolleyes: you'll just have to see which one you got:D
