Does anyone breed or know of any one who breeds 'Labrapoodles', A cross between a labrador retreiver and a stardard poodle?

I've heard that they exist but have been unable to track one down.

Many Thanks.
Eve Atkins.

Hi Eve,
the breed name in LabraDoodle! not poodle!! If you do an advanced search on this site for Stonecellars Labradoodles you'll find a breeder in Durham.

Good Luck!

Rachel:)

Sorry but Labradoodle is NOT a breed. Poodle's are a breed and Labradors are a breed. Labradoodle's are mongrels!

Crossbreed John, I think is the polite term. And if that is what you want then none the worse for that. But one would have thought that there were enough breeds available without resorting to designing others. What is the attraction do they not lose hair or is it just the catchy name. Jackie H

I've never seen one. What do they look like? A curly coated retriever?

It was a cross originally done by the guide dogs to produce a non moulting guide dog. A couple that I know of were trained but failed to live up to expectation so (As far as I’ve heard) the experiment is not going to be repeated. The thing which annoys me is that someone is actually breeding them! They are creating a market in "Designer" dogs and that I find repulsive. We have been talking for years about the day when you will be able to look in a catalogue and Design your own . . . .whatever! Be it dog, child or whatever. Add that to the fact that it always seems to be the poor Labrador which forms the basis of the cross! We hear about the Labrador which bit someone and because it looks like a Labrador no one bothers to say that it is crossed GSD or Border Collie! If crosses must me made how about leaving the poor Labrador out of it and try something else. How about a West Highland Poo or a Shetland Doodle for a change! I’m sure enthusiasts of these breeds will be no more impressed than me.

Hi
On the subject of labradoodles, people are using this cross and people are buying them thinking they are of for people with allergies,wrong.....labradoodles are only a cross of poodles and labs this does not mean they wont shed their coat, they still do and can not be guaranteed to be for allergy sufferers. Please dont buy one if you are allergic to dog fur no one can guarantee you will be ok.

Even dogs that don't moult such as SWD's aren't always useful for people with allergies. Somebody wanted one of my puppies but when I took my old girl to her house she said that she was terrible after we left. People need to find out what kind of fur, wool etc. they are allergic to because they could be able to cope with a NORMAL !! breed.

A lady that was alergic to dogs spent a day with my breed, and had a puppy from me, which is now 4 years old. she has had no trouble with this breed, or with wire haired breeds, but any short coated breeds she gets a reaction to. turns out she is alergic to the skin particles not the fur. some short coated breeds tend to flake more than longcoated, or at least the skin is more able to come in contact with her.
