Hi,
Well, my old Ferguson analogue camcorder has finally packed up,leaving me with a litter of cute little pups just waiting to be filmed and no means of doing so!
I had a quick look on amazon.co for a new one but was totally confused by the huge selection that they had on offer.
I'm thinking of getting a digital one and am hoping that some "camcorder wise" Champdoggers could explain to me the difference between Digital 8 and Mini DV.
Also, can anyone recommend an easy to use model....I quite like Sony and would prefer something quite small.
Thanks.

Hi Krazyhorse
we have a little JVC model which takes Digital tapes . Really easy to use ( with the monitor) and can download to pc or video if you have the right connections etc .
Got it at a very reasonable price at Costco if there is one near you . :)

Hi Lel,
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately we don't have Costco up here but I have just had a look in the Argos catalogue and see that they have a very neat little JVC model. It's always good to get a recommendation from someone that actually uses a product, because they can sometimes be so complicated that you just about need a degree in Nuclear Physics before you can even switch the thing on!!! (Maybe that's just me, of course)
So, hopefully, I'll soon be filming the little cutie-pie pups.

Hi
Digital 8 camcorders are made only by Sony. They tend to be cheaper, if also a bit bulkier, than Mini DV models, but the sound and picture quality can be as good. They record on Hi-8 tapes, which are also used in many analogue camcorders. Tapes cost from around £3 for 60 minutes.

Hi,
Bought a camcorder late last year. Bought it from www.unbeatable.co.uk, can highly recommend them for quick delivery as well as interest free credit.
I bought a JVC GR-DVL365EK, has small digital tapes and takes stills which you can download onto your PC, pretty good quality as well.
Happy hunting.
Heidi
Thanks everyone,
I eventually decided on a Sony from Amazon....ordered it last night......now waiting (im)patiently for it to arrive.
You all seem pleased with your J.V.C.s but they were mostly marked as "Limited Availability" on the Amazon site - must be so popular that they've sold out!
Heidi,
I hadn't heard of www.unbeatable.co.uk - I will certainly keep that in mind for future reference.
