Hi All,
I brought my 5 month old Dobie home at 11:45 this morning. He's into everything and totally adorable. But I'm beginning to worry... It's now 8:20pm and, despite being popped out every half hour or so, he still hasn't gone to the toilet! He's drinking plenty and he's eaten his dinner. He's 'full of beans' and his tummy's not swollen, so I don't know why he won't go (?)
Any ideas??

He obviously has a "Place" which he looks upon as his toilet and of course it's no longer available. Dont worry too much, sooner or later he will have to go and from then on he will gradually look to the "New Place" as his toilet.
I've been through all this in the past when taking dogs away on holiday for the first time. This is exactly the reason why I said in reply to an earlier post that I do not train my dogs to go in a particluar place.

It's amazing how long they can last if put to it! I thought my old Dalmatian, when on holiday for the first time, would go pop but no! Eventually he went and from then on things got easier.

Hi All,
he finally went this morning! :)
Would you believe he actually lies down to have a wee?! I've never seen anything like it. But, as long as he's going now, then I'm happy. He is such a good boy. He asks to be out and - so far - he hasn't done anything indoors.
Thanks for the help,
Sparkles

Young dogs often squat, the leg cocking only really starts as they become adult and wish to mark their territory. My first dog would only cock his leg if out, never in the garden. In the same way, bitches don't usually mark in the manner dogs do. I had a bitch, definately lower in the pecking order that the old bitch I had at that time, who always tried to mark over the old bitch's scent but the old bitch never bothered unless she was on the point of coming into season!
Best wishes, John
