my 2 year old gsd jessy has reapeted bouts of the runs and vomiting which causes her to lose weight, the bouts last about two to four days and always come on in the night,I used to starve her for 24 hours and this would solve the problem for a few weeks,it has now become more severe,I have been back and to too the vets and come back with antibiotics, these cure the problem but once the dose has finished the problem arises again,I have had some blood test done and am awaiting the results,I have changed her diet gradually a few times trying to find something that suits, the best yet was burgess super dog for fussy dogs,we went 8 weeks without any problems,I am currently feeding her twice a day with fresh boiled chicken and boiled white rice, this isnt keeping the weight on her and I am worried that she isnt getting any vitamins and minerals,I am going around in circles and would be gratefull of any info....the vet is now suggesting steriods(I hate the word)

Could be inflammatory bowel disease - my GSD suffered for years (still does). It's awful :( Tests keep showing up bacterial overgrowths. In the end he had a biopsy of his bowel.
I do supplement his diet with Super Pet Vites from Holland and Barrett. They are a high strength vitamin, mineral and protein formula in tablet form. He loves them :)

Be careful- after repeated doses of antibiotics the system needs a pro-biotic to restore its balance, otherwise your dog will have no natural immunity to gut disorders. The gut needs a certain amount of bacteria present to aid digestion. Speak to your vet about this.
Best of luck,
Nicola.
