im due to pick up a boxer in a few weeks which was the only one to survive after
a very traumatic birth (ceaser) were all other 6 puppies died except one.
will this have any bearing on its social skills or development being the only pup
the breeder is very experienced and i know the pup has had the best care.

I reared a singleton once and she has grown into a well adjusted friendly to all dog, however she did have the benefit of another dog other than her mother in my home and she then went to a household with another dog so that may have helped give her a boost in the socialisation. If you have no other dogs in your house perhaps introduce her, in you own home, to the dogs of family and friends that you know to be vaccinated and fit and well.

If the puppy was brought up by it's mother and had opther dogs in the house to socialise with and learn a few essential skills then you should be OK. It is usually (but not always) the singleton bottle reared dog that has had no doggy interaction at the beginning that can develop problems with poor social skills.
