I have three girls, ages 5,8 and 12,who desperately want a puppy.Their mother has some dog allergies. Our neighbors have a bichon and another has a maltese, neither of which causes a reaction from my wife.I've done a lot of research but would like as many opinions on different breeds as I can get.I am particularly interested in the Border terrier,Cesky terrier,Coton de tulear and the Havanese,as to their suitability to young children and people with allergies. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give me.Sincerely Howard J. Leath.,

People with dog allergies are generally OK with Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, they don't shed their coat. They can be a bit lively and bouncy though. There is a fair amount of grooming required and trimming though to keep the dog in a good condition. There is a Soft Coated Terrier Club of GB web site http://www.wheaten.org.uk

Well i may be being biased here but i would say miniature schnauzers are a very good dog to own they are good for people with allergies as they don't shed they have coats that need to be trimmed so they can always look smart & like a pampered pooch & they have a very good temperament & can be either a lap dog or running about all day with the kids & are happy doing whatever you are doing, mine are like my shadows wherever i am they are whatever i'm eating they want a taste:) they are real characters & i have yet to find a snappy mini schnauzer.
You can get them in 3 colours (well 4 if you count white but there isn't many around) they are salt & pepper(grey & white) balck & silver (black & very silvery white) or solid black.
They are 14" to the shoulder for a male & 13" for a bitch & they weigh on average 6kg or 14lb some may be heavier or lighter depending on the bloodline they are from.
Happy hunting & let us all know what you decide on.
Jenny.

Got to admit Schnauzers are fantastic dogs..Dont shed (good for allergies) Great temprements, and most of all they just want to please! We have an 8yr old and now an 8wk old pup, they are great with children, they dont need too much space as playing with them gives them good exercise (not that im saying they dont need walking, but they dont need mile runs every day!)

You should have a search round for any breed that does not shed and then see what you like
