Topic Dog Boards / Health / Fit n Fertile update

After our fit n fertile discussions last year I promised to keep the board updated on Libby's situation. Though it best to start a new thread, it was so long ago!

Libby is a Black American Cocker bitch, and will be 4 in May. She had her first season when she was 19 months old, and then nothing! I put her on fit and fertile last autumn, as a sort of last attempt. She has had thyroid tests (all OK), everything apparently normal in every way, just no season. I know she had not had a silent season, as she had run with Dexter for 18 months, and boy would he have noticed any I missed ;). So, fit n fertile seemed about the only thing left - we decided that if nothing happened we would call it a day at her 4th birthday and give up hoping. She had 2 tubbs of fit n fertile, and we decided a change of scene might help, so she moved over to Blackpool for a holiday with Mike. Everytime one of the bitches in residence came into season Libby was put next to her, and still nothing, then, in February, she came into Season (Yippee!!!!) She was mated to Ambrose, and I crossed my fingers. Everything has progressed normally, she produced a nice tight tummy - and then, presented us with beautiful babes. This made 2 years and 2 months between first and second season, and she has produced the litter exactly 2 weeks inside the deadline we set ourselves!

So, yes, no proof positive that it was the fit n fertile which worked the magic, but would I try it again on a bitch with similar problems? Yes, a resounding yes!

Anyone else had any fit n fertile results, either fertility or coat wise?

bye
Gwen

I used F&F on a bitch that began her show career in a wealth of coat (American Cocker). Each time she came into season she dropped a bit more coat and a bit more coat, till it was sparse to say the least. My plan was to breed from her at her fourth season, so I started her on Fit & Fertile during her third season. She has subsequently grown a profuse and voluminous coat just in time to have it all clipped off for her litter. So I do agree, F& F,excellent for growing coat.

Hi Dawn,
That sounds promising! I have just started our Cody on Fit'n'Fertile a week ago, since he has lost nearly all of his coat. I could see we wouldn't be going near a show before next winter! Hopefully with this his coat might at least look in good condition before then!

After reading about Fit N Fertile on this board & in the dog press, we tried it for growing coat on an out of coat Cocker (English) & am afraid it didn't seem to have any affect whatsoever in that department & I have spoken to other Cocker people who have experienced a similar lack of success :-( I did notice that the Cocker we gave the Fit N Fertile to did develop a hearty appetite whereas previously she had been a bit of a picky eater so we did get some benefit from this supplement, just not the one we were looking for :D As with most things, what works for one dog won't necessarily work for another....

I use Restore, find this excellent for bringing in good coats. You can get this from
www.stocknutrition.co.uk and they do mail order.

Yes, have tried Restore as well in the past with limited success :D I have come to the conclusion there is no magic remedy to grow coat that works every time (although these coat supplements do improve skin & coat condition generally)

Hi Jane,
Can't say what effect Fit n Fertile had on Libby's coat - she is clipped off! But I know several American Cocker people who now swear by it for when a bitch has blown coat after a season. Nancy (the Black & Tan who was Gr 2 at last yars Midland Counties) was losing some chest and tummy coat after her season, and it started growing within a couple of weeks of using F'n'F, she has been kept on it since, and having recently finished her 2nd season - no sign of coat loss.

But, similarly to you own experience, I also know a coupl on whom it has had not effect. I suppose some just arent meant to grow full coats :)

Or they will grow their coats in their own sweet time :D The bitch we gave the Fit N Fertile to is now more or less back in full coat - it's just taken 6 months to get there :D
