i have a lovley 2 yr old Rottie she is normally a great dog and friend we are having a few problems with her at the moment when she first went to the vets for her jabs she was fine. But a few months ago she had a sore paw and she nearly bit the vet. I couldnt belive my eyes it was like seeing a strange wild animal.A few months past by and she had to go again the same thing happend again. She is so strong it takes 2 of us to hold on to her i think she is frightend because we have to hold her down if we dont she will either bite the vet or he will not come close to her.He has given me some seditives for next time!!. And as luck has it she is limping again so i bent down to have a look i got hold of the paw to see if any thing was in and she gave me a warning bite on my little finger . At the moment i feel let down by her because she is normally a very good girl any suggestions???? looking forward to any suggestions or advice.

Biting is a dog's normal reaction to fear or pain, and unfortunately once the dog has learned that people back off when they do it, it becomes very difficult to 'unlearn' it.

Do you handle her all over, every day? Look in her ears, lift her lips and look at her teeth, feel her paws, stroke all down her legs, feel around her tail etc. All the time reassuring her while she's standing quietly letting you do it.

Important when she plays up and growls not to say "Good girl" because she clearly isn't being a good girl!!!

Hope this helps.

You could also try muzzling her for the next vet visit?
IMO, it's less stressful for all involved. If it's fear that she is reacting too and not pain, she'll soon come to realise that you're not worried about her biting, the vet can approach her without fear, and so hopefully she'll have nothing to worry and be feared about.
Some dogs have a way of coming round through the sedatives, especially when they're stressed.
Try to remember she's not really being bad, she's just scared or hurting?

I have to muzzle and pin one of my dogs down every time he visits the vet. He snarles, growls and is generally outraged with every visit. There isn't anyone who works in the practice who doesn't know it's my dog when he's in for treatment. He's always been like it in there although now he's no bother anywhere else. It's a shame really as if he needs a proper examination it always has to be under sedation. The vet hasn't a hope of listening for anything else if all he can hear is growling and snarling.
On the other side of the coin I've got the same sort of problem with the cat. As soon as he gets out of his basket he starts purring like a engine. It's so loud. I have to set the vet up with his stethascope ready and quickly get him out. He's then got a few seconds to listen before he starts. :D
