Can anybody recommend anything to help Moose my 19 month old Lab to get her through this season. She has been extremly moody and grumpy and is on day 14 and is obviously at her height of redainess but is giving my eldest girl a really hard time. She won't leave her alone and has her nose stuck to her rear end and is whining and hassling her almost every waking moment, in between having spats with MB. I am keeping a good eye on the situation but wondered if there was any think that I could give her that will calm the urges?

Many Thanks

Lucy

Hi Lucy,
All I can suggest is Amplex or Antimate chlorophyll tablets that mask the scent - they work at keeping dogs away, so they should work with bitches as well. They certainly won't do any harm.

Hi Jan

Sorry a bit confused ( not too difficult at the moment ! :D) If I gave them to Moose then it still would not calm her down as she is hassling Min the oldie who is not in season ??!

Jeangenie, where do you get these Antimate chlorophyll tablets from and when do you give them ? I assume that it must be at the start of the season but my bitches are well into their seasons and my dog is driving us mad although he is well seperated from them. We have a social weekend coming up this bank holiday weekend and I am not looking forward to an 18 and a half stone panting, whining mess :)

Hi,
You can get these from most petshops - Amplex I think are made by Johnson's (- or is it Sherley's? - oops, senior moment). Ideally you give them from the start of the season, as they take a few days to 'kick in', so start as soon as you can. They certainly do make a difference.

i'll be trying them at my bitches next season, or rather she will, but i can't imagine my dog being fooled, but we'll see.

If the dog's in the same house, it'll be more of a challenge, but I've certainly found my girls never had 'callers'.

Amplex was I believe Shirley’s. The Antimate spray was in my opinion a complete waste of time. Every dog in this area seemed to know the smell and would zero in on any bitch sprayed with it. Certainly my old Dalmatian, the last dog I ever owned knew the smell off by heart.

Some bitches seem very upset the first season, you would have thought "The Flower" was dieing the death! Second time was rather easier and since then, apart from being a little precious she is no problem.

Best wishes, John

John

Moose is the opposite. Her first and second seasons were not too painful although acting slightly strange ! But this season she has been a complete drama queen ! I have put it down to having MB here now. Moose really mothered her as a small pup and now as she is ready to 'make new babies' she is trying to get MB to stand up on her own two feet so Moose can concentrate on rearing her new 'virtual reality' puppies ! If she could have done I think she would have packed a big hankerchief with with a few bones etc on a big stick and sent her on her way ! :) Do you think my theory may have something in it ? Probably not !

They used to do them in little pots of 100, now the pots only have 50, and still cost around the same. 50 won't even conver a full season for one bitch.

Does anyone know a supplier of these in larger quantities at reasonable cost?
