I have been told there is such thing as a 'Block-Head' Labrador Retriever. Has anyone heard of this? If so, do you know where I can get any info on them? My Labrador Retriever is 10mos old and already 92lbs--skinny. Someone told me he might be a European Lab called a blockhead....any info is greatly appreciated.

I think someone is pulling your leg :) :) I've known quite a few Labradors who were a bit of a block head, in fact I could think of a couple I've owned, (particularly when they’ve forgotten where I threw the dummy!!!!!)

As for a 10 month old weighing 92lbs, sounds a little heavy to me. As a guide, "The Flower" is quite a little over breed standard in height even for a dog and in full "Working" condition weighs 76Lbs. Am I right in believing that you are in America? I mention this because you use Lbs rather than Kilo’s. If this is so then your breed standard calls for a top height some 2 inches taller than here in the UK and a weight of 65 to 80Lbs.

Is that what an average adult lab bitch should weigh?

John, I weigh my dogs in Lbs too :D

Apart from Bear, who now weighs 85+lb and as I can't pick him up any more .. I do it by *eye*

Leigh! Weighing in LBS! The Euro police will be knocking on your door!!! I thought it was only old men like me who persisted in measuring in "Real" units! :P

Thistle, The UK breed standard, unlike the US standard, doesn’t list a weight. Height for a UK Lab bitch is 21.5 to 22 inches to the shoulders whereas in America it is 21.5 to 23. The US bitch weight is listed between 55 to 70 LBS. I always believed a Lab bitch in this country would be around 65LBS and considering that "The Flower" is around 24 inches of solid muscle 76Lbs would sound about right to me. I must admit that I am led more by feel than the scales, I like to be able to feel well covered ribs. If I can't feel them then the Lab is too fat and if I can't feel the flesh covering then they are too thin.

Would be very interested to hear from this Guest.
