Hi everyone I need some advice, I have a young Gsd female. who at the moment is suffering from a phantom pregnany, she hasalways been funny before and sfter a season, but this time I have her kennel mate who is nursing pups, and was in season at the same time as Jordan. This more or less started 3 1/2 weeks ago when the older bitch was in her last week of pregnancy, Jordan then started refusing her food and ate nothing for 6 days, off to the vets she went and hormonal dysfunction was diagnosed, he gave her ovarid tablets and she seemed to improve after that, and ate her food that is up until now, again she has eaten nothing since last saturday been to the vets yesterday who gave her an injection and tablets, but I am so worried about her this food refusal can be doing her no good, and she is very miserable and depressed, I have tried everything I can hink of to tempt her to eat, last night I tried Advance weaning porridge from the pups, it took me half an hour to get her to eat about 2 tablespoons ofthe stuff, when she gets over this I need something to help her getting the same thing again, show season is lomig and although she was at a champ show last Monday and done extremely well, she was not the same dog, she showed her socks off in the ring, but outside she was so miserable and before I had taken her to the show, did not realize at the time that she was havig this phantom I really thought she had got over it or else I would not have taken her,
Can anyone please help any suggestions as to what to try now would be VERY welcome I am in despair with her, for the sake of her health with this long term no eating

Hi Janines,

Raspberry leaf tablets are excellant for false pregnancy, we use them for our bitches all the time and they are fantastic. I would also try a homeopathic remedy called pulsatilla, this works well to.

If she has a hormone imbalance, you may want to get her hormones tested again about 15 weeks after the start of her season to see if they are ok again. One of our bitches had a hormone imbalance and her prolactin levels stayed high all the time, therefore giving her the feeling of a false pregnancy all the time. She had to have medication to bring these levels down low enough to have her spayed, she is now much better.

Hope this helps.
