Hi everyone
im getting really nervous our ******bitch is now 5 weeks pregnant and im dreading her whelping, last time she retained a puppy which was born dead after a oxytocin injection from the vet, the injection really upset her when she was so beautifully settled with her new babies.
I have made sure her weight is fine (not fat) and that she is fit with plenty of muscle tone and there is a eighteen month gap since her last litter.
Is there anything else I should be doing or could try to preventing it happening again

edited to remove breed as I dont want this post to be seen as advertising :)

Can't offer advice but sounds like you are or have things in order.

Just keep the vet to hand and fingers crossed you have had unnecessary worry.

I was terrified with my litter but all went well.

Good luck

Pam

My bitch whelped on Saturday night with six healthy puppies but again she retained a puppy and we had to call the vet out.
We are very pleased with the out come she has three boys and three girls all a nice even chunky pups :) :)

Hi sorry its took so long to reply ive been very busy I wonder why :D :D
Sadly we did lose the puppy that was retained it was a little girl she waas smaller than the other puppies and although she was borrn alive she was very week and faded away after a hour.
on a happier note the remaining pups are doing really well and growing by the minute!!

Congrads Kate, good luck to you and Tia. I hope things go well, I'm still busy with Nuggets 11 they seem to be doing really well. She's eating good but she sure is skinny. Sorry to hear you lost one of the pups, but I'm very thankful that the rest are so healthy and strong.
Good luck to you all
Debbie
