I've posted on here on quite a few occations and have you guys have always helped me out, so I was hoping this time you could help a friend of mine out.
She has a 20 m/o Gsd who has a very sweet temperament. The only thing is that when a friend/visitor comes to the house, she jumps up and she is very boisterous around children. I've given her some books of mine, but I'm no expert so I don't really know what to suggest.
Has anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Josh
HI Josh :)
I expect there are lots of answers to this one, but my solution was to make visitors really boring. The dog was behind a childgate with no fuss from visitors allowed. After 20 minutes or so, she was allowed out but still ignored except for a "good girl, out here" sort of thing.
When she calmed down (by this time she was pretty calm) we all troooped into the living room and she was given a really tasty chew treat which would occupy her for ages.
She is pretty good now - i take her for walks with my toddler godson and she was far more interested in his fluffy toy seal than in him ;)
Originally when she was a pup she did get a lot of attention from visitors, esp. family, and expected fun and games, and I think this is half the trouble. Once they realise visitors are not that interesting they seem to relax and chill a bit.
Just the way I did it, anyway :)
