Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Brushing a Dalmatian

Can anyone tell us of a brush/comb which would help us brush our dog. He isn't keen on being brushed and all the brushes we've tried so far have not had much effect.
Thanks
Jack

The nature of the coat means they do not need great deals of brushing. I found a rubber "Hound Glove" as well as anything. (A rubber glove with like the bobbles you find on a table tennis bat on one side) Jeangenie will possibly pick this up when she sees it. :)

I've found a "Zoom Groom" to be brilliant for my dalmatians; a massage with one of these gets out masses of loose hair (by rights they should be bald!), and followed up by a quick brush with a "body-brush" type (think horse, here) leaves them looking great.

If not, rubbing them while wearing rubber gloves is quite good, but you do need an ordinary brush (not a slicker-type with wire 'pins') to brush off the loose hair. A comb isn't suitable for this type of coat, it can hurt them.

My lot think being groomed is a lovely game - I only have to pick up the brushes and they all rush to the back door to be let out so we can get going! I leave the mountain of hair on the lawn, and the birds come and take it for their nests.

I used to use a rubber horse curry comb - they loved it becasue it gave them a good muscle-massage at the same time :)
