I have just had my one year old Golden Retriever spayed, whilst at the vets she had a panic attack(no more details known), since then she has been withdrawn, lawill not eat, cries alot, carries a toy around constantly, and tries to dig constantly. Has anyone else had experiences of this, and how long did it last, as this has been going on for 4 days now and the vet just thinks that I'm mad!

Would have thought she is having trouble with the fact that her body has a shortage/excess of hormones, as some of her hormone producing glands have been removed.
She is behaving as if she was about to whelp. It will no doubt settle down to some extent but may take a while, she is still a pup so her body, mind and system is having trouble recovering.

Hello Jane,
At what stage during her season cycle have you had her spayed? I am wondering if you have chosen a time when the prolactin levels are too high and this has caused the problem.
We have a beardie (Taya) who had a severe hormone imbalance, which meant she had to be spayed. Before she could be though, she had to undergo a few weeks treatment to reduce the prolactin levels, because these levels were constantly high all the time, whether she was in season/false pregnancy or not.
Now she has had them reduced enough to spay her, she is fine, although still has very mild false pregnancy type symptoms sometimes when one of the other bitches comes in season.
Hope this helps.
