Hello everyone

My large breed puppy of six months since yesterday has started to yelp when I try and pick him up (don't normally but wouldn't get out of the car!!), getting out of the car, when he gets up from laying down not every time though. Not so keen to sit when asked and he's not jumping up the worktop which is highly unusual. Looks like it might be his front legs or chest.
Yet he's ok when walking and has been playing with toys etc.
Is this just growing pains or has he just pulled something
Look forward to your replies to stop my worrying :(

Cheers Rachel

Only a vet can answer your questions Rachel.
I'd be worried too :(

My dog had similar symptoms when she pulled a muscle in her back, but I would definitely go to the Vets if he is still having problems tomorrow, particularly as he is only 6 months and a large breed

All the best, let us know how you get on

Hi Rachel,

Exactly this happened with our puppy about 2 months ago.
It was a result of pulling a ligament under his front leg.
Our vet said it is extremely common with puppies from normal
'play' i.e. running down the kitchen floor and ending up in the 'splits'

He just gave him a anti-inflammatory injection, and then we
had to orally give him anti-inflammatorys for a few days. Then he
was absolutey fine!

Oh yeah and complete rest (i.e. no walking, no playing) for a week

YEAH RIGHT! :-)

I would definatley take him the vets.

Hope this helps, Louise
