When we had our shih-tzu as a pup, she was gold and white (this is whats on her registration papers) . She is 4yrs old now and she is mainly brindle and white except for a brown patch on her lower back. It started out as a few brown hairs but now it is quite a distinctive patch. As anyone else found this with their dog. It makes no difference to me what colour she is but I just thought it was a bit strange.

Yep - I got a toy poodle as a pup. He was a sort of apricot colour with the ears, feet and tail being a darker colour. At 1 year old he is now cream verging on white and the only bit of colour left on him is his ears. I keeppraying that he will keep it because he looks so cute.

My GSD Jessie was very dark as a pup but by the time she was 2 she was what they call 'blue' with some white markings.

So I guess most dogs coats will change colour as they grow out of puppyhood.

It's usual in Golden Retriever puppies to look at the colour of their ears. They are usually darker than the rest of the coat and give an indication of the dog's adult colour.

Scnhauzers change colour, They are a lot darker when they are pups. Our 8yr old was very dark almost black with a few salt and pepper sprinkles, now he is silver!

I think it has something to do with maturity, like kittens. They have that long kitten fur and then when they are about 7-8months it all drops out and they become all nice a sleek.

hiya,

Jack`s coat is also changing, he was a light fawn when we got him and now he is becoming a richer red!
Jack is 10 wks tomorrow, so we will be off to the vets for his second injection!

All is going well, we are all chuffed to pieces!!

my Border Terrier looks like a different dog, she was so much darker when we first got her home and now red/grizzle coat looks more grey/red adding to her little old man look!

Hi Maggie,

Beardies change colour as they grow as well. The continue to change until they are about 2 years old. Firstly they are born dark and then they go almost white all over sometimes and then go back dark again, but not usually as dark as they were born. Strange creatures beardies!!!! :)
