Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Best tinned food?

Obviously, feeding our dogs is a matter of personal preference for many reasons. However, someone I know feeds Pedigree Chum and feels it may be too rich. This Owner would like recommendation of a good quality tinned food (and biscuit for her dog who is 5 months old) - Please could you either recommend or equally advise which to avoid. The dog is a large breed age 5 months.

(I do not have experience of tinned foods as I personally feed the BARF diet), Therefore, your advice and experience would be appreciated, and I will pass it on to the person concerned. MANY THANKS.

Hi guest,
My dogs have always found any of the Pedigree foods to be an excellent cure for constipation! The best tinned food I have come across, though I don't know if they do a puppy version, is Chappie. Stinky, but they love it!

My pups were being fed Pedigree Chum and it completely scoured them, the poor things are now on an eight hour starvation diet as recommended by my vet with only water to drink. I will start very gradually introducing a dry complete once their tummies settle, my other dogs also have Natures Menu BARF and love it, they've never had upset tummies!

Hi Guest

I use Gelert tinned food as an addition to a dry diet. It is just meat, no additives but is no more expensive than other tinned foods.

We fed Pedigree Chum at one stage but found it made the dogs very loose to the point of scouring.

my current dog gets tripe, NatureDiet and Natures Menu but my previous Belgians were fed mainlyon Chappie Original. Honestly if you give good chews and bones the dog's breath doesn't smell any worse than any other dogs', in fact i am proud to say mine had lovely breath  As Jeangenie says, not sure about the puppy version, if they do it?

I always felt the fish oils used in the Original had to be good for the coats and health generally, and my first bitch lived to nearly 16 on it.

I too have found PC makes dogs loose, it's OK but yes i feel too rich :)

Best wishes#

I agree with Lindsay, naturediet is an excellant food, much better than these tins with loads of sugar and meat/animal derivatives.....manky stuff!! :O :D
