I was very interested to read about Sandras AKK puppy, I did not know they were even here yet. Ive had a Bouvier when they were new in uk, a T Mastiff and a Glen Of Imall who is now 11, Nan the wonderdog. My question:- How can I find out what new breeds are just entering the country, even less than required for import register. I now know that the AKK is here and also that the Azawakh has arrived.
What else is new?

Hi
Don't know if you've heard about the Eurasier but there are a few of them being imported at the moment, I have 2 in quarantine now and we are hoping to hear from the Kennel Club soon that they will be putting them on the Import Register.

Hi dizzy
Not sure if you mean you want pics of Eurasiers?
I can put a link on to a webshots page I have with lots of pics on but I don't want to do something I shouldn't,
Can anyone confirm that it is ok if I do this?

Well I can tell you that the Schapendoes is winging it's way here to the UK this year :D. Dog World have got a rare breed/import register supplement coming out in May so there may be people who have 'new' breeds advertising in there, we have with the Schapendoes so maybe others have too.
Bec

There is a Cineco Del Etna, and it is now on the Import register, but as yet there is only the one bitch here, and shewas a trooper at Discover Dogs, seeing as she was the sole representative of her breed! :D

Hi Vanya,
just read your posting regarding the AKK and was interested to see you have had a T Mastiff, you did mean Tibetan Mastiff ? I have 3 at the moment and breed them (in a small way). Where did yours come from ?
Also Does anyone know how long it took for the Cineco Del Etna to get recognised by the KC?
Like 'Chili' I also have a Eurasier and another due in October, I'm sure we will gain recognition in the end but it's taking a while !!

I've already applied for KC registration of the Schapendoes (they seem to have taken my money but not sent me the registrations yet) The regulations state that there must be at least 10 examples of the breed in the UK, a club should be formed and an interim breed standard drawn up for them to be able to compete. They will accept breeds for registration prior to that you just wont be able to show them other than in agility and obedience.

Bec, do you know how the Cirneco Del Etna get on the IR then? I thought there was only one in the UK?

I mispelt the name it is Cirneco del etna, and Maureen Foley the owner of the bitch told me it has been accepted!

Hi Bec
has the KC actually accepted the Schapendoe onto the Import Register yet? I was told that they(KC) would prefer there to be, as you say at least 10 examples of the breed in the country but I think it would be difficult to get a Club organised with such small numbers and an Interim standard would be drawn up by the KC possibly with input from interested parties or they may accept the FCI standard.
I've a feeling that perhaps there are no hard and fast rules for initial acceptance by the KC, after all the Pyrenean Mastiff is on the IR and at the time of Crufts I thought there were only 6 in the UK, a bitch who had 5 pups while in quarantine.
We've certainly got more than 10 Eurasiers so there is hope for us yet !!

The KC will accept non recognised breeds for registration and stick them on the import register subject to the dog coming from a country which has a reciprical agreement with the KC. You have to request registration prior to importation (so it says). If you go to the KC website they have a downloadable form for registration of imported dogs you just have to supply them with the relevant documentation. However, you wont be able to show them at conformation events until an interim breed standard has been agreed and that's when the 10 dogs rule comes in I believe.

Thanks Bec!!

Don't expect once you have 10 of the breed in the country that the KC will allow them to be given an intermin breed standard. It took the Spanish Water Dogs just over 7 years to get it, although some other breeds seem to hardly have any dogs in the country and get accepted very quickly!!!
If you see me at shows you'll see me show an 11 year old girl, she was one when she came into the country and was 9 when she was eventually allowed to be shown. Can't complain though because she still looks fantastic and wins at both open and champ. shows!! It's great fun, especially in the gundog group as everybody in all the breeds are really nice and we always take the micky out of each other when we beat each other at the shows, Manchester Champ. shows was one of the best I've ever been to as every breed had a wonderful time, whether they won or lost.
By the end of this year I think we'll have nearly 200 in the country as quite a few litters have been born in the last few months and more are hopefully on their way, and a number of dogs have been imported. I haven't a clue how long it will take us to come off the import register.
Luckily we took it steadily and the numbers have risen slowly.
By the way Leigh how many Bracco's are around now? (boy I'm nosey) and can't spell today.

Leigh can't get to the Forum at the moment so has asked me to post the following :
There are approx 100 bracchi in the UK ... due to go up soon as there is a litter due :D (so probably 110 if you add them) :D
The breed is coming off IR in the very near future.
Incidently (for anyone who wanted to know :) )the breed was introduced to this country in 1989, first litter born '91 so the breed has increased nice and slowly over the past 12 years
HTH
Melody :)

Thank you, I remember when Phil had his litter of 13, aaaggghh with his Bracco. On average I have only had litters of 4 or 5 in Spanish, boy what a difference. God, a litter of 5 is enough to be truthful, I know what 5 SWD's are like running around I can't imagine 10 Bracco's.
Good luck in coming off the IR.
Regards.
Diane
