I have a young peke and if she turns out good enough I am hoping to take her to some Ch. Shows. Unfortunately:( I suffer from panic attacks if I drive long distances, and/or go on a motorway. So, I thought that I could attend some shows, with her, by train. As she is small she could sit on my lap, my other peke who is a pet only, has travelled all over by train and is very happy to do so:). Anyway I know that I could easily do Windsor, Richmond, LKA. But does anyone know any other showgrounds that are near stations? Or has anyone else travelled by train to shows. Or am I mad to even think about it:D:D.
Hope that someone will reply.
Thanks. Anna

I wouldn't think it mad:) Especially with the size of a *Peke*- let's just say it may be slightly more challenging with a Great Dane for instance:p :) I would *think* that you could do most shows on a train with possibly a taxi ride after that and it would still cost about the price of petrol if you had drove down. Plus you could sit and eat sandwiches and have a cup of tea/coffee while you enjoy the ride- you can't do that driving;) The best thing to do would be to look at maps (maporama etc on jeeves) and see if there's a train st within reasonable taxi distance from the venue:)

Hi,
Well, SKCs aren't too far out of Edinburgh - just a short taxi ride. And Darlington is very handy for the station, literally just along the road. Think Border Union might be a bit tricky, and Leeds too, but Driffield would again just be a short Taxi ride. Blackpoool a little longer taxi ride, but not too bad. Of course, NEC is really handy, but I seem to remember a lot on angry letters in the dog papers about poor train service, expecially by Virgin. Stafford not too far out of the town, but not sure about the Rail Station. Hope you and your Peke have lots of happy train trips - I travelled Mabel Pug by train from London to Newcastle when she was a baby, and it was no problem, the train staff very helpful. A friend who has an American Cocker in Partnership with us often travels up to Blackpool from Luton by train, with dog, without problems.
bye

Thanks very much to Stacey and Gwen. I am really encouraged now. so will keep my fingers crossed that my peke will be good enough to show. When I had my first show dog, I travelled all over London with him, by Tube and Bus with no problems and he was quite a big dog...( a rough collie ). However that was more years ago than I care to remember :).
Once again many thanks for your help.

Nice one Val !!!. I took a rough collie to Olympia,( shows how long ago that was:D ) by tube. Used to meet Frank Mitchell at different stations, and he usually had at least 4 beautifully behaved roughs. This was before he travelled in style by mototbke with the dogs in the side car. The good old days:D:D.
