Topic Dog Boards / General / Stud Book
- By Rose F [gb] Date 21.04.03 17:30 UTC
I have read other posts which have mentioned dogs being entered in the Stud Book, can someone explain what this is and how a dog would get into the stud book.

Thanks

You have to win a first prize at a championship show, where CCs are on offer for the breed in limit or open, win the reserve CC or the CC. You will then be awarded a stud book number and entered into the stud book which will give you qualification for Crufts for life. However, not all breeds, such as my own Field Spaniels, qualify by winning limit because of the small number of exhibits at championship shows.

Qualification for the Stud Book varies according to the breed - popular breeds like Golden Retrievers & Cockers can qualify by winning 1st, 2nd or 3rd in Limit or Open (as well as by winning the CC/RCC) Junior Warrant winners also qualify for the Stud Book under the new system.
