Our 6 month old american cocker spaniel Georgie thwarted burglars who broke into our home last night at 5.00am.
We live on the ground floor and she must have heard them get in through the window. We getup to go to the bathroom in the night sometimes and she doesnt bat an eyelid, but as they broke in through the living room and for some reason she knew this was not us and she barked the house down. They made a quick exit through the front door when they heard her. She woke us up barking like crazy and we heard the fornt door go as they ran out and closed it behind them. They must have made such a quick getaway that they knocked our phone which is on the floor over. We think ourselves very lucky they didnt take anything but a pack of cigarettes and a lighter because she disturbed them. I dread to think what would have happened if she had not been here. As it is they didnt go into any other rooms because Georgie scared them off. We let her out into the garden when it happened and she paced up and down checking the entire garden for intruders.
In the dark I suppose they couldnt see what size she was!!, although she is small she is a very confident and daring character and not scared of anything, and we can only begin to imagine what else could have happened while we were sleeping.
God love her she is very loud when she barks (thinks she is a rottweiler!!!) and is VERY protective. I didnt know cockers were natural guard dogs but she could easily train as one. She nearly ate the policeman for breakfast when he called soon after!!!
Anyway just another reason why I am so glad I got her and am very proud of her today. As a treat I have given her some bacon and cooked a real bone for her to nibble on - she has sat by my feet all morning. Wherever I am she is never far away from me and follows me everywhere. Sometimes I get fed up with it but today I am glad she is like that and I love my Georgie to pieces she is the best puppy in the world - am now glad she is so protective of me. So for anyone contemplating getting a dog - this is another reason why it is great to have a dog!!!, espeically one who loves you to bits like our Georgie.

Well done Georgie
please don't give her a cooked bone - they can splinter very easily and get stuck :( only ever give her a raw bone

Well done Georgie! They have said that most burglars wouldn't tackle a house with a dog in it (any size) and Georgie has proved that right :D
Give her a hug from me.

Well done Georgie!! She's earned a nice long walk today! :)

Whoooo Georgie! :)

Give that dog a large plate of whatever takes her fancy today :D Well done!
I am convinced Hudson would just knock a burglar over in his excitement to say hello , wouldn't bark at all :D :D

Clever Georgie :D
Gus is also very "protective" especialy at night time . By day he has a *puppy* bark when he is playing and excited but at night time , if he hears a noise when he is in bed out comes this Big DEEP throaty bark - he sounds much bigger and older than he actually is!!
