I have recently been given a 4 year old Bullmastiff dog and know little about this breed. My last dog was a beautiful and well behaved pit bull. Can anyone give me any advice on temprement traits, feeding or any possible danger signs I should keep my eyes open for. The dog is around children-is this advisable?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks
Ian

I suggest you go to a bookshop and buy a good book about the breed. If you are in UK, Ringpress Books do a good series of "Pet Owner's Guide to...." If they do one on bullmastiffs, that would be a good place to start your collection.

if you are unsure about he dog around children ALWAYS be there to supervise as both dog and children can get overexcited

Ian if you have a four yr old that is not showing any signs of aggression then I dont thing you need worry.
However my advice is dont let young children alone with any dog as they need protecting from each other .
I am sure if he is not showing any signs of aggression he will be fine .
If he had done any wrong such as bite then I assure you it would not escape anyones notice, A bite from any breed will be nasty so a giant breed bite will be even more so
so I am sure he would not be with you if he had bitten or attacked anyone.
You may feed him the same way you fed your pit bull just a bit more . I usually give a small breakfast and a good full dish in the evening . and keep a look out for the same signs you would have looked for in your pit bull re any change in his temperament towards people.
Bullmastiff is a kind breed and have a good name with children
But there has been the exception to the rule so as always just be be carefull ,
Mari
