Hi
I currently have a female staffordshire bull terrier she is 2 years old and has been spayed, My friend has offered me a male english bull terrier that is 4 years old, I am a little apprehensive about this, could there be a problem between the 2 dogs & is it better to forget the english bull altogether and go for a pup
TIA

I'd say forget the English bull and get a male pup get him castrated when he's old enough and you have the ideal mix.
In my opinon a 4 year old EBT would be too much of a risk.

Hi,
I dont really see why it would be best for you to go for a puppy if the older dog needs a home, why not just give it a try, if it works out then great and if it doesnt then im sure you will be able to find him a good home! Afetr all if he is 4 you miss out on all the hard (but fun!) work like training, socialising etc, just a thought!

Hi, I would tend to agree with Vikki, You don't know unless you try. If they don't get on at least you have tried. You will have a bit of work to do bringing in a new pup anyway.
Good luck.

You must have some idea of their temprements? Try softly softly approach see if they hit it off, short walks, excercising them together. Then make up your mind?
Good luck. :)

If both dogs have a good nature, I would give it a try. Usually I find Staffs are more fiery than Bull Terriers, most bullies are laid back.
If things dont work out give Bull Terrier welfare a ring or find him a good home yourself.
Good Luck

Hi Bullywood Bull Terriers
Just seen your message re: taking a EBT into a home where there's already a staffy and got interested. I've just done assessment on an EBT Staffy X. The person who rehomed him was told he was aggressive. I could not see any signs of aggression at all - just a lot of excited barking!! From what (little) personal experience I've had with Staffys and EBTs I wouldn't have thought aggression was a trait - they're just stubborn but friendly.
What's your experience of the breed?

Hi,
yes you are right bull terriers are stubborn, but in general I find them laid back and love luxury. They can be misinterpreted as often they dont wag their tails, just crinckle their eyes at you.
Odd characters, not for everyone but the sort of dogs once you have had them a while get under your skin.
Oh, and very collectable.

Hi Tia.
I dont think you should write the bully off just yet. If you know the dog and its pretty even tempered and both dogs get on ok it may well work out fine. Your staff will be the boss as its female. The male will just accept this without a fuss. The biggest problem would be if your staff doesnt accept the male into the home. I doubt the male EBT will show aggression unless he is already an aggressive dog. Why is he being rehomed?. Is your staff a sociable dog?. Bully's of all breeds generally get on ok with each other. I wouldnt leave them alone together though. I never leave two dogs together on their own, I always cage one of them. Even if they grow up together. With a sensible approach it will probably work out fine.
Regards Mick.

Hi Tia,
just read your message and I am interasted to find out if you have tried the two together yet? I can't really see a problem. They pretty much have the same nature (except for the Bully being a couch potato). I hope it worked out if you did it :)

Hi,
I just wanted to add that my brother in law has a rescue EBT ,she was left alone in the garden for the first 2 years of her life and never saw a sole. They have had her for 3 years now and she is a joy. When they first got her she wasn't house trained or socialised but with lots of love and patience she got there in the end. She's not dog aggresive and is lovely with my son.People give him and his girlfriend such a hard time when they go out with her and cross the street with their children.I think it so sad as she is such a loving fun dog and I find myself sticking up for her even within the family!!I know it's each to their own but people seem to make such ill informed judgements. They are lovely dogs and I wish you all the best with yours,
Hazel
