Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lurcher's unspecific water works problem
- By wizzasmum [gb] Date 17.04.03 10:06 UTC
Hi
My rough coated lurcher has recently appeared to have a hair cut on the end of his penis covering (for want of a better description). I normally trim the longer hair from this area to prevent a mucky tassle forming, but over the last few days it has become bald as if nibbled! He has not been seen to nibble the area or show any distress when passing urine so this is a mystery to me. It has also become darker in colour at the opening. Sorry this is such a weird sounding post. I am just wondering if this is something I should be concerned about before I go off to the vet to be plied with antibiotics, steroids and the usual extortionate fees. I am in the process of moving house and have packed away all my homeopathic remedy books, which I would normally look to in a case like this. Any ideas would be gratefully accepted.

What age is the hound

Hi Jackie
He is around 2 - 3 years. Rescued last year after being thrown from a car. He was in awful condition at the time but is positively blooming now apart from his little bits!

It sounds like Balinitis,a mild infection,he must be a bit sore or itchy, the vet will prescribe some anti biotics for it. Faolan

Thanks Faolin
That's as I thought. My neutered bitch has also been behaving as if she is in season lately. Could be a connection I suppose! I'll book him in for an appointment
Take care

In case you are wondering why I asked the age, puppy dogs do have a very long tassel, I have alway thought to direct the urin flow to the ground until the pup cocks his leg and the long hair usually goes. But that would not be the case in an adult and infection sounds the likly cause.
