My Dalmatian has just had an operation on his hock and had some screws put into the bone. Looks liike he will be strapped up with a splint and bandage for at least 4 weeks, possibly 8 weeks.

Has anyone had any experience of the various dog boots on the market, bearing in mind it has to go over quite a large bandage. It is vital I keep the bandage dry as there is a lot of padding inside it, so it must be waterproof. It is only to take him out in the garden with, but his claws are showing so I think he will go through a plastic bag.

I used a Mikki boot on my dalmatian when he had a toe amputated, and it worked reasonably well (except when he wanted to gallop!). It tended to slip then, but his foot was a strange, pointed shape because of the loss of the toe.

Fortunately the weather was dry most of the time.

I use boots from pro active paws at www.dogbootsactive.com. They are quite long, I have to cut mine down a bit, and they are virtually indestructible as they survive on my Mastiff where as nothing else does.

Thanks for all your replies. Dog Boots Active only sold in pairs, only needed one. Decided on Countrymum, very helpful lady answered the phone and I should have one in the post tomorrow.
