As they would be considered to be of Pitbull type I beleive they would not be allowed to be imported or bred here in the UK. This is due to the Dangerous Dogs Act. Does anyone know different? Mr Murphy???

They are actually a recognised breed in the U.S and are officially recognised by the AKC .
Dont know what the law would be with regards to having one in the UK as really a pitbull is a cross breed . (Correct me if I am wrong Mick).
I think the whole issue is a bit of a legal grey area with regards to Irish Staffs and American Staffs and Pitbulls .

Hi Folks.

No grey area really. The APBT is banned in the uk. The Amstaff is banned in the uk as its recognised in the usa as the show stock of the APBT. The ISBT is not banned as its not recognised as either a Staff/APBT/ or cross of either. Its just not recognised.
As a responsible dog lover I dont think you should consider a banned breed. You could lose the dog anytime through its life as the law is never going to be changed. I would never want to lose one of my dogs prematurely because it was banned. Thats why I opted for ISBTs instead of APBTs, as these were the only legal alternative as far as I could see as I wanted more APBTs and couldnt have them and be sure that I would not get any hassle for owning them and the possibility of them being destroyed under a foolish law.
As for the APBT being a cross breed, it is no more a cross breed than any other breed and as much a breed as any other breed as all dogs were cross bred at some point.
APBTs and Amstaffs are available in the uk. Please dont take this the wrong way, I wouldnt tell you where because if you knew enough to own one you would know where and how to get one.

The APBT is no more of a dangerous dog than the world is a dangerous world.

Regards Mick.

Yea you will get hassle for having an amstaff, i currently have a amstaff/english bull cross and he looks very similer to his father who was the amstaff only differance really is his ears are more like the english and his snout is slightly longer, anyway i never had him for long before the police tried to take him off me and i only got away with it by saying he was an ISBT/english bull cross, as they could not prove other wise and i got him back after 2 days and it scared the shit out of me as i thought they where gonna put him down so IMHO not worth it i would opt for the ISBT so u dont get the scare i got.
